Keys of the Kingdom

Keys of the KingdomKeys of the Kingdom by A.J. Cronin

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

My dad recommended I read this book. It's one of his favorites and has sentimental value to him because it was given to him by a friend while he was a missionary in Germany. I enjoyed the story and the perspective provided by the main character, Father Chisholm, regarding religion. He provides an important message of tolerance and love.

The House on Mango StreetThe House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a pretty fast read. It only took me about a total of four or five hours to read. Sandra Cisneros is a talented writer with a unique way of describing things.

I finally read it:

To Kill a Mockingbird To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

My review

rating: 5 of 5 stars
I was glad to finally read this book since I felt a bit un-read having not read it while so many people make references to it and speak so highly of it - and they do so with good cause. I enjoyed the narrative style of the story as it was told mostly from an eight-year-old perspective with a few insertions of the narrator's older voice. It makes for an intriguing read that subtly allows the reader to grasp meanings that were intended. Harper Lee's skillful story telling and masterful use of the English language make this a must read.

Lord of the Flies Lord of the Flies by William Golding

My review

rating: 4 of 5 stars
Maddening. I really enjoyed the symbolism though. Great imagery. The dialogues were sometimes a bit confusing.
